MALOLOS CITY—Dengue claimed its third casualty in Bulacan but officials said that incidents of the dreaded disease in the province remain low compared to last year.

They also reiterated call for the implementation of the 4 o’clock cleaning habit in barangays.

Dr. Joy Gomez, head of the Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO) of Bulacan said the latest casualty of dengue in the province is 16-year old Apple Mae Domingo of Barangay Ligas in this city.

This brings the number of dengue casualties in the province to three from January to July.  The first two victims came from Hagonoy and Pulilan towns.

Gomez said that dengue cases in province have significantly dropped in the first seven months of the year with a total of 1,338 das against the 2,561 recorded for  the same period last year.

However, Gomez warned that the number could climb again noting that more cases are usually reported in the months of August and September.

“We really have to implement the 4 o’clock habit to eradicate dengue,” she said referring to cleanliness drive launched during the third  Asean Dengue Day celebrations in Bulacan.

Gomez stressed the need for consistent implementation of the program noting that some local government units complied only once.

She said the provincial government also provides larvicidal chemicals for barangays and has not lifted the free dengue treatment policy at the Bulacan Medical Center.
