CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – “Nung ninu man pu lungub king Pampanga, tanggapan ta la. E ta la po babastusan, buri ta la o ali, respetuhan ta la. (Whoever comes to Pampanga is welcome. Let us not be rude to them, whether we like them or not. Let us give them due respect.)”

Thus, Gov. Dennis “Delta” Pineda exhorted his constituents to welcome all candidates, especially the presidential bets, to the province and give them due courtesy.

Citing as an example, Pineda furthered in Kapampangan: “There is the group of supporters of Vice President Leni (Robredo), like Tatang Oca (Rodriguez), Among Ed (Panlilio), (Danilo) Baylon …do not be angry at them if you are not pro-Leni. I would like to tell all Kapampangans: Let us respect their decision.”

Rodriguez is a former multi-term congressman and three-term mayor of the City of San Fernando. Panlilio is former governor of Pampanga who lost to Gov. Lilia G. Pineda, the current governor’s mother who is now incumbent vice governor. Baylon, a fomer Candaba town mayor is running for the governorship against Pineda.

“Those who are pro-Ping Lacson, we shall respect too. As well as those for Manny Paquiao and for Isko Moreno,” Pineda furthered.

So, why do Kapampangans need to respect the candidates, aside from an expression of cultural value?

It is not known who will be fortunate to win, hence the need to respect all. The Kapampangans making a stand for the candidates can ensure that the province will not be deprived of some connection to the eventual winner, Pineda said to this effect.

“Let not the Kapampangans fight one another on account of their candidates,” he appealed, as king that they, as voters, should respect one another too.

“Your governor is ready and open to meet all [candidates] who approach us, all who would seek an audience,” he added.

A caveat though: “Let me be clear to all Kapampangans, to all political organizations and candidates too: It doesn’t mean that if I stand for certain candidates, the whole of Pampanga should vote for them. You have your own free choice. You are not bound to follow mine. I respect the decision of every Kapampangan as to whoever candidate they would vote for.”

The governor spoke during the payout to Nanay Community Workers who are beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (Tupad) of the Department of Labor and Employment at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center. With Pampanga PIO
