LUBAO, Pampanga – A resounding “Yes!”
That was the response of hundreds of residents to former Mayor Dennis Pineda’s request for permission to run for vice governor next year, in tandem with his mother, Gov. Lilia G. Pineda.
Known as “Delta,” the only son of the governor joined her and local officials last Friday in the distribution of financial assistance to farmers with less than one hectare of farm lot each, as part of the Pampanga Agriculture Modernization Program (PAMP). Some 8,000 marginalized farmers are targeted as program beneficiaries.
“The entry of Delta at the Capitol will give more of the sincere public service started by his mother. He is the right man for the job,” said Joe Mari Santos of Barangay Sta. Cruz, here.
Pineda’s long-time ally and running mate, three-term Vice Governor Joseller “Yeng” Guiao, is barred by law from seeking another term and will run for congressman at the province’s first district.
VAST EXPERIENCE
Comebacking Bacolor Mayor Romeo “Buddy” Dunga said the young Pineda’s vast experience as public official “makes him most qualified for the vice governor post.”
Like his mother, Pineda started his public service as town councilor and moved on to the Lubao mayorship for three terms, He also served as Pampanga Mayors’ League (PML) president and national treasurer of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) for two terms.
More importantly, Dungca added, Pineda “as vice governor will ensure the continuation of team work in the provincial board as he’s a known team player.”
“So that the very hardworking governor, our Nanay, can rest a bit,” said Dungca in jest.
In Floridablanca, Mayor Eduardo Guerrero rallied his constituents to support the vice gubernatorial bid of Pineda. He spoke during the recent distribution of Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) cards to barangay policemen in the town led by Gov. Pineda.
A businessman and husband of Sta. Rita Mayor Yolanda Pineda, “Delta” is also a sports patron, helping develop athletes from Pampanga.
