ANGELES CITY – The city government has asked USA-based Facebook to delete an account of Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno which contains negative comments against him.
City Administrator Mark Allen said the popular social networking website had been used to discredit Nepomuceno, a first-term mayor who is seeking re-election against two opponents.
“Obviously, the mayor or anyone from our group has not prepared the Facebook account. It contains lies,” said Sison, who spoke to Punto over the phone yesterday.
“It’s all black propaganda against the mayor. It was done by his political opponents,” he added. Nepomuceno will be up against former two-term mayor, Sec. Edgardo “Ed” Pamintuan and Balibago village chief Rodelio “Tony” Mamac in the coming 2010 elections.
But Sison failed to categorically mention who among the mayor’s rivals could have done his Facebook account. Sison said they had been informed that the removal of Nepomuceno’s account could not be done immediately.
“It will take a longer time. One of the reasons is that the Facebook firm is based far from us,” he added.
Sherly De La Cruz of Barangay Anunas said she had accepted the invitation from Nepomuceno to be his friend on Facebook.
“I was honored because I will be a website friend of our very own mayor. But I was shocked to see his own comments,’ said De La Cruz.
“You don’t have to be genius to realize that the account was not prepared by the mayor,” she added.
