MABALACAT CITY – Pampanga 1st District Rep. Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. distributed school supplies and treated daycare pupils here to malunggay ice cream as he continues his tradition of providing for the school needs of his constituents since his term as Angeles City mayor.

A total of 2,745 daycare students in the city are set to receive crayons, notebooks, pencil, eraser, sharpener, and writing pads, and other supplies personally donated by Lazatin out of his own pocket. Their parents also receive five kilos of rice from the solon.

Lazatin treated the daycare pupils to a serving of the first ever “malunggay ice cream” in the First District of Pampanga, which he launched on July 1 as part of his initiative to promote nutrition among young children.

It can be recalled that as Angeles City mayor, Lazatin also launched the malunggay bun – dubbed “Pusong Mamon” – in 2022, which was distributed to daycare students as part of Angeles City’s nutrition program.

In the first week of July, Lazatin also visited the Municipality of Magalang to distribute school supplies to 1,665 daycare pupils.

Last month, Lazatin also participated in the Brigada Eskwela 2025, where he personally donated 580 sacks of cement, 116 liters of paint, and 232 paint brushes each to 58 public schools in Mabalacat City and 58 public schools in Magalang. Participating in the annual Brigada Eskwela has been a tradition of Lazatin since he first became a councilor in Angeles City in 2013.

Lazatin has always advocated for education. As Angeles City mayor, he spearheaded the repair of daycare centers amounting to P5 million; the construction of additional classrooms, offices, laboratories, and canteen at the City College of Angeles (CCA), amounting to P259 million; and the construction of the P50 million New Annex Building of the CCA, funded by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.

Under the Lazatin administration, 58,000 tablets were distributed to public students in Angeles City from Grades 4 to 12; 3,200 tablets were distributed to public school teachers; and 3,200 tablets were distributed to students of CCA.

Now that he is Pampanga First District representative, Lazatin vows to further his efforts in championing quality education for all.

Part of Lazatin’s legislative agenda is to propose measures to increase funds for the construction and maintenance of more classrooms in public schools, to increase the salary of public school teachers by 20,000 pesos across the boards, and to provide comprehensive training programs for public school teachers. Team Lazatin
