SAMAL, Bataan: The Department of Agriculture distributed free inorganic fertilizers to rice farmers here Thursday.
Agriculture technician Rico Mendoza of the municipal agriculture office said they have scheduled three days starting December 21 and to be followed on December 27 in the distribution of more than 1,000 bags of fertilizers.
This Thursday, 600 bags of fertilizers were handed to farmers who trooped very early to the Samal covered court.
Mendoza said the fertilizer distribution is part of the DA’s Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Program (RCEP) where farmers also receive free palay seeds.
A farmer registered under the DA program tilling 0.5 hectares of riceland is entitled to a bag and 5 kilos of fertilizers. Mendoza said all farmers in Samal will be placed under the program.
“Nakakatulong ito sa magsasaka. Malaking bagay ito. Salamat sa mga biyayang ipinagkakaloob ng pamahalaan sa magsasaka,” widower farmer Norma Vinzon said.
