SAMAL, Bataan — The Department of Agriculture assisted farmers in this town not only in the form of free palay seeds but also with farm machineries and equipment, the municipal agriculture office here announced Friday.
MAO head Nora Medina said some farmer groups have so far received in grant farm equipment from the DA under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Program and in its regular program.
Dispatched under RCEP were two 4-wheel tractors and two mechanized rice planters.
From the DA regular program were three 4-wheel tractors, four shallow tube wells, two collapsible dryers, one warehouse recirculating dryer and a combine harvester.
The Bureau of Soil and Water Management handed out an organic composter and a shredder.
Three associations of vegetable growers were recipients of six knapsack sprayers for their high-value crops.
Some farmers were given 15,000 tilapia fingerlings recently.
Being readied for awarding are a multi-cultivator and two shallow tube wells, Medina said.
Also being prepared for awarding to fisherfolk soonest are three engines for bancas, multi-filament net and solar lamp, the MAO head said.
Ongoing was the distribution of 1,400 bags of palay seeds under RCEP, given free to 985 farmers tilling 700 hectares of land.
