CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Upholding consumer protection in the time of the enhanced community quarantine.
Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago’s express policy finds regular implementation with the City Local Price Coordinating Council doing the rounds of public market stalls to ensure the vendors adhere to the regulations protecting the consumers.
On Tuesday, the council monitored stalls selling agricultural goods such as fruits, vegetables, and meat products. Joining them were top officers and representatives from Business License and Permit Division, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, and Department of Trade and Industry.
“Isinali natin sa ating monitoring at inspeksyon ang agricultural products dahil ang mga presyo nito ang pinaka-magalaw, hindi katulad ng ibang produkto na may nakapirming basehan ng presyo,” said Mila Rivera, city market operations division chief, adding that they checked prices and inspected the weighing scales used by the vendors.
She explained that while the provincial government didnot issue a price freeze order on agricultural commodities, the city has adopted the measure that is applied in Metro Manila where local government units implemented a suggested retail price (SRP) scheme.
“Base sa ating monitoring at inspeksyon, generally, sumusunod naman ang ating mga vendor sa tamang weighing scale measurement at sa mga napagkasunduang presyo ng mga produkto maliban na lamang sa iilang gulay gaya ng bawang at sibuyas na na-obserbahan ng City Agriculture and Veterinary Office na may pagtaas sa presyo,” she explained.
With this, CAVO will conduct a study on the factors that led to the price increase and coordinate with dealers.
Earlier, the council also conducted a price watch on medical supplies among major drugstores, pharmacies, and retailers in the city and in supermarkets and grocery stores for essential food and non-food products.
The council will regularly conduct monitoring activity every week.
