“ANG MGA parangal ay mga pamantayan sa kung nasaan na tayo, at kung ano pa ang ating mararating.”
Remarking these words with complete pride, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago led the City of San Fernando in accepting its fourth Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), the highest award ever given by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The awarding ceremony, held on November 7, 2018, at The Manila Hotel, was also attended by Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, City Local Government Operations Offi cer Irenea Bacani, and department heads.
Established in 2014, SGLG is a response to the “call” of the Local Government Code of 1991, which challenges the Local Government Units (LGUs) become partners of national government towards good governance, which for this year, has crossed seven governance (7) areas.
These areas include Financial Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection, Peace and Order, Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness, Environmental Management, and Tourism, Culture, and the Arts.
In the Governance Assessment Report, released by the DILG, CSF successfully met the criteria in each area, making it on the list of recipients released on October by the agency.
“Kaakibat ng pitong governance areas ang pagpapakita ng katapatan at kahusayan sa pamamahala, mula sa mabilis at malinis na transaksyon sa mga serbisyo hanggang sa pagpapalago ng turismo sa pamamagitan ng kultura at tradisyon,” expressed Santiago.
He also remarked that the recognition is a product of the collaborative efforts of all Fernandinos, citing, “tayo ay lubos na nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng Fernandinos dahil ang tagumpay natin sa SGLG, bunga ng sama-samang pagsisikap at pagtatrabaho.”
For this year, a total of two hundred sixty-three (263) LGUs were awarded the SGLG, including forty-three (43) from Central Luzon, making it as the second best performing region, next to Ilocos Region.
