CABANATUAN CITY — Nueva Ecija registered seven new confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease, including a 5-month-old baby girl, raising to 255 the total number of infections in the province as of August 7.

The baby girl is the grandchild of a couple from Barangay Vega, Bongabon town who have tested positive of the virus, according to the Nueva Ecija inter-agency task force.

The 58-year-old grandmother who was tagged Patient 254 was believed to have been exposed to her husband, Patient 223, whose case was confirmed much earlier than the two. Patient 223 was the first Covid-19 case in Bongabon.

Mayor Alan Xystus Gamilla said two sub-villages where the grandfather went were being put on lockdown for 14 days.

Disinfection activities were conducted and the basic needs of affected residents were provided by the government.

“Hindi po natin ginagawa ito para mag-discriminate kundi dahil ito ang kailangan,” Gamilla said of the lockdown.

The other new cases include a 62-year-old woman from Barangay Caimito, Palayan City; a 69-year-old woman from Barangay Buliran, San Antonio; a 22-year-old female healthcare worker from Aduas Sur here; a 27-year-old man from San Anton, San Leonardo; and a 39-year-old male vendor from MS Garcia of this city, according to NEIATF.

The task force added that the woman from Buliran, San Antonio, tagged as Patient 250, died on August 5, the 12the fatality in Nueva Ecija’s register.

With 123 recoveries and 12 deaths, Nueva Ecija as of Friday has 120 active cases, some of them asymptomatic, reports showed.
