MARIVELES, Bataan — The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) has implemented random checks on the body temperature of visitors and workers in this town as precaution against the coronavirus disease.

John Ryan Reyes, commander of AFAB Incident Management Team (IMT), on Monday said they have fully reactivated their group for Covid–19.

He said that while before IMT was tasked on looking after accidents, fire, earthquakes, floods, and other man-made and natural calamities, their group starting January this year gave special attention to the dreaded virus affecting the world.

“Inaalam namin kung ano ang mga kailangang gawin para ma-prevent ang Covid – 19 sa Bataan freeport. Sa ngayon ay gumagawa kami ng mga measures at isa sa mga ito ang random temperature check–up,” Reyes said.

He said that with the ban imposed by the country on those coming from China, their job was lightened and there was no need for rigid checks on visitors and workers in the freeport.

With the use of thermal scanners, security guards and AFAB health and engineering department personnel check the temperature of those coming in the AFAB administration building and at the gate leading to different factories.

“Kapag may lagnat, pinapaakyat namin sa clinic para ma-check sila,” Reyes said when asked what they do with visitors or workers with fever entering the administration building. But so far, he said they have not encountered yet anyone with temperature beyond the required limit.

The Bataan freeport has more than 46,000 workers in the employ of 141 multinational firms. Of the total workforce, more than 1,000 are Chinese employed at a coal power plant.

Reyes said that as added precaution, the Bureau of Immigration regularly informs them if there are foreigners entering the freeport.
