ANGELES CITY – A couple – the husband working as a waiter in a hotel in Clark and his wife who just resigned as a cook from a hotel here – won the grand finals of SM Hypermaket’s Superchefs “Cook Like a Pro in 45 minutes” on Friday.
Angela and John Benjie Adefuin (team Pot A Fue) prepared what they call the “Asian steamed egg” with tofu which captured the taste of the three judges.
“It was an experiment,” said the couple who received P10,000 worth of gift certificates from SM Hypermarket.
They said that watching cooking shows on television helped a lot. “Yun kasi ang madalas naming ginagawa dahil madami rin kaming natututunan dun.”
The couple scored 89.67 percent and defeated team Eagle Sky represented by Edipolo A. Pueblos and Vladimire Policarpio, who received P5,000 worth of gift certificates.
Pot A Fue also defeated at least three other teams before reaching the grand finals.
SM City Clark Assist. Mall Manager Ana Datu, who was also one of the judges, said she favored the “Asian steamed egg” over the “egg omelet with seasoning” because of its unique taste.
“I like the idea, the originality, texture wise it’s smooth, and of course it’s healthy and economical since they only used P185 out of the P250 budget. But it could have been better if the tofu is a little bit dry,” she said.
Datu also said that team Eagle Sky’s egg omelet tastes like the same omelet cooked in restaurants and at home. “Masarap din siya kaso walang masyadong twist.”
John told Punto Central Luzon that he is now working at Hotel Vida in Clark. He also worked at the Holiday Inn Resort Clarkfield for five years. Angela worked at the Century Hotel here for four months.
Panel of judges include: Chrysanta S. Rodriguez, owner of Bake and Brew café in Hensonville Subdivision and Maia Kathrina E. Guinto, assistant branch manager of SM Hypermarket in Clark.
