CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The countdown to the city’s signature Christmas event – the Giant Lantern Festival – has started.

On Nov. 7, the city government led by Mayor Vilma Balle-Caluag presided over the signing of memoranda of agreement between GLF 2024 executive committee chair Engr. Alvin Mendoza and the principals in the holding of this year’s event, namely Robinsons Land Corp. for Starmills as the official and exclusive venue, CLTV-36 as co-presenter, and Firefly Electric and Lighting Corp. and Royu as official lighting and electrical partners.

Standing as witness to the signing was GLF Foundation, Inc. chairperson Franco De Jesus.

In her remarks, Caluag noted the partnerships between the city government, the GLF Foundation, Robinsons, CLTV-36, Firefly Corp. and Royu “are living proof that with public-private collaboration, the giant lantern-making tradition will endure, continue to draw and inspire hundreds of thousands of people, and provide a platform and livelihood for Fernandino lantern makers.”

To open on Dec. 14 at Robinsons Starmills, GLF 2024 will feature the 10 official entries from barangays Bulaon, Calulut, Del Pilar, Dolores, San Jose, San Juan, San Nicolas, Sta. Lucia, and Sto. Niño.

Each of the entry received P400,000 subsidy from the GLF Foundation.

The start of the countdown to GLF 2024 coincided with the lighting of Robinsons Starmills’ 35-foot-tall Christmas tree adorned with locally-made parol led by Caluag, Mendoza, and Robinsons Malls senior marketing director Jess Zulueta III.

A gift-giving ceremony for the children-beneficiaries of the CSF-based Inocencio Magtoto Memorial Foundation and performances from the CGSFP Choir and SB Family Choir were also part of the launch. Punto Lifestyle Team-CSFP CIO/CN Photos
