MALOLOS CITY – The driver of Angat town councilor Erwin Illescas was killed in a crossfire between armed carjackers and police officers in Sta. Ana, Pampanga yesterday morning.
This developed after Central Luzon police raided three safehouses of alleged carjack syndicates in Pampanga and yielded undocumented vehicles.
Initial reports said that a certain Eloy De Leon, a driver of Illescas was killed in a crossfire in Sta. Ana Pampanga.
Police said that they established a dragnet after receiving reports that a Honda Civic with license plates USX 494 was stolen in Angat, Bulacan.
Upon reaching Sta. Ana town, police said that armed suspects fired at them. “So we were forced to fire back,” police said.
Police added that one of the suspects was arrested while two others managed to escape. No other detail was released with regards to the identities of the suspects.
Residents of Angat, Bulacan said unidentified armed men forcibly entered the house of Aida Illescas, wife of Councilor Erwin, between 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. yesterday.
Aida’s house is located at Barangay Marungko, Angat.
Residents said that Aida is unharmed, but when the suspects took off, they brought with them the driver.
However, the incident was immediately reported to the local police who sent out a flash alarm.
Some police officers also said that Illescas’ car was driven to Malolos City, then to Hagonoy, then to Pampanga in an attempt to shake off pursuing police officers.
However, the chase ended at Sta. Ana, Pampanga where police established a checkpoint.
