CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A candidate for the sangguniang bayan of San Simon and a companion were killed in an ambush around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
Police reports identified the fatalities as Rogelio Salvador Jr., 42, former chairman of Barangay Concepcion and candidate for the town council, and Joel Salvador, whose relationship to the former was not disclosed in the report.
A third companion identified as Arnel Caparas was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police quoted Dominador Gamboa, 61, of Barangay San Miguel, saying that the victims were on board a Chevrolet Trailblazer (CDZ5651) traversing Bambang Road heading towards Barangay San Jose when an unidentified car from the opposite lane fired at the victims’ vehicle multiple times.
Salvador Jr. is running for town councilor in the slate of acting mayor Leonora Wong under the Kambilan Party.
Reports said Salvador Jr. and Caparas are complainants in a case against suspended mayor Abundio Punsalan and five councilors who were found guilty of grave dishonesty, grave misconduct, grave abuse of authority, and gross negligence by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
They are also said to be complainants in other criminal and administrative cases filed against the suspended mayor before the Office of the Ombudsman. With media reports
