CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A group led by Councilor Jimmy Lazatin yesterday donated P20,000 for the treatment of a three-year-old boy suffering from  hydrocephalus in barangay Telabastagan, here.

Lazatin and members of the Telabastagan Pamikalugud Association Inc. (TPAI) gave the financial assistance to Maricris Balasia, mother of Mark who was born with the disease also known as “water on the brain.”

Lazatin said the TPAI was created to “primarily help” indigents of Telabastagan.

TPAI is behind Telabastagan’s back-to-back win in the Giant Lantern Festival competition being held annually. This year’s event is set to be held on December 18.

Telabastagan Barangay Captain Remigio De Jesus said that aside from the support given to Mark, they also sponsor college scholarships to their constituents.

“We just don’t finance the giant lantern of our barangay. We also help the people, especially the poor ones,” said De Jesus in the dialect.

Balasia expressed gratitude to Lazatin and his group as “it will be vital to the treatment of Mark.”

Girlie Guarin of the S and L Inc., Telabastagan lantern designer Arnel Flores and other Telabastagan councilors also witnessed the granting of the check amounting to P20,000 to Balasia.
