SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – At least 108 participants, mostly cops and journalists, joined the recently held 1st General’s Cup in a bid to promote “safe shooting.”
Held at the Zambales Olongapo Pistol and Riffle Association (ZOPRA) in Castillejos, the event “is just the first, and the tournament will be held quarterly,” said Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Law Enforcement Division (SBMA-LED) Manager, Retired General Orlando Maddela, Jr.,
Out of the 108 participants, 18 guest shooters were from the Olongapo police while other journalists also joined the event.
“Ang susunod na papraktisin natin ay ang speed shooting while running, walking at konting assault”, said Maddela, adding that the 2nd SBMA-LED cup will be held on April 2009.
Selected top ten best shooters include: Edu Gruezo, champion; Jeffry Domingo, 2nd; Ricardo Eligido, 3rd; Romeo Tolentino, 4th; Bong Gruezo, 5th ; and (6th – 10th placers) Roderick Gruezo, Joe Aquizar, Nomer Benitez, Luisito Cabalo and Jomar Ebardo.
For the guest shooters, Julius Domingo bagged the championship. Eduardo Peña placed 2nd and Vivian Reyes won the 3rd place. They are members of the Olongapo City Police Office (OCPO).
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Team won the champion for the best team while Admin Team bagged the 2nd place and the SWAT Team A placed 3rd.
Maddela thanked Olongapo Practical Shooters Association (OPSA) President Jim Robertson, ZOPRA owner Nonoy Juico and ZOPRA members who fully supported the event.
