ARAYAT, Pampanga – Police investigators found a charred body of a man in his badly burnt car on a river dike in barangay Mapalad here at about 2:24 a.m. recently and they are looking into the victim’s involvement in cockfighting as possible angle in the crime.

Provincial police director Senior Supt. Primitivo Retirado told Punto that his probers identified the victim as Renato Catacutan. He was burned inside his Honda VTEC with plate No. UMF 901 with chassis No. 160009599.

“It’s seems to be a case of arson with murder,” he said. The incident was reported by residents who saw the car burning. Local firemen were among the first to arrive at the crime scene, but the car and its occupant were already badly burnt.

Retirado said that probers quoted witnesses as saying that the car seemed to have come from the direction of barangay Candating here, and that other persons, apparently the suspects, were seen fleeing from the burning car.

Retirado said he is checking reports that the victim had a previous quarrel with people who are into cockfights in this town, amid reports that some persons had accused the victim earlier of fielding weakened but healthy looking cocks in fixed cockfights.
