CABIAO, Nueva Ecija – A police officer who was facing concubinage charges was gunned down while playing badminton with his minor daughter at about 7:10 a.m. Saturday in Barangay Natividad North here.

The victim was identified as SPO3 Joseph Miranda,42, a resident of Barangay Maligaya this town and detailed at the Regional Comptrollership Division, National Capital Region Police Office in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig.

SPO1 Orlando Francisco, investigator, said Miranda was playing badminton with his daughter when the two unidentified suspects wearing helmets with visors that covered their faces arrived and without a word “simultaneously shot the victim at the back.”

The suspects then searched the victim’s car (UFO-384) before fleeing on board a single motorcycle toward Arayat, Pampanga direction. It was not clear if the suspects got anything from the car though. Francisco said the victim, along with his alleged woman, has been detained sometime in 2010 on charges of concubinage filed by the woman’s husband, a certain Ding Domingo of Malolos, Bulacan.

“Since then, the victim received several death threats,” police reported. Police recovered from the crime scene spent shells from M-16 rifl e and .45 pistol. A follow up investigation is being made to establish the motive and the people behind the killing, Francisco added.
