Cop, bro-in-law, survive gun attack

    CABIAO, Nueva Ecija – A Camp Crame-detailed policeman and his brother-in-law survived an ambushed staged allegedly by seven heavily armed men in Barangay Sta. Isabel here on Sunday.

    PO3 Dionisio Labis, a resident of Francisco Homes III San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan and detailed at the Philippine National Police Headquarters in Camp Crame was on board with an Isuzu Crosswind (XRU-318) with a certain Victor Banzon, 49, when ambushed by about seven “unidentified persons with long firearms” at around 6:30 p.m., police reported.

    A team from the town police office headed by Insp. Nestor Vasallo, deputy chief of police, and the provincial public safety company (PPSC) recovered at least 10 empty shells from M-16 Armalite rifle.

    Investigation showed the victims were on their way home from their farm in Purok 3, Barangay Sta. Isabel when the ambushed happened, police said.

    Labis told policemen that the “suspects fired at them with the use of long FAs and immediately fled toward the direction of Pampanga.”

    Police are conducting follow up investigation for possible identification and arrest of the suspects.
