Cop, 6 wounded in NE ambush

    STO. DOMINGO, Nueva Ecija – A policeman and four of his relatives and two bystanders, including a minor, were wounded in an ambush staged by unidentified heavily armed men along the provincial road in Barangay Mambarao here at about 7:30 pm Friday.

    Chief Insp. Erwin Ferry, acting chief of police, identifi ed the victims as PO3 Christopher Delfin who was detailed in Camp Olivas, Pampanga; brother Pedro Jay, 26; cousin Reynold Hernandez, 33; Eric Pardo, 28, all of Quezon, Nueva Ecija.

    It was Pedro Jay who was on the wheel and sustained the most serious wounds, said police investigators.

    Also hit by stray bullets were Rommel Ignacio, 30, and John Orlanarquez, 16, both residents of the said village, police said. Unhurt was Raymundo Delfin, the policeman’s uncle who was at the back of the pick-up truck.

    Investigation showed the victims were on their way home to Quezon town from a cockfight derby here on board a pick-up truck (PIN 6791) when tailed by a Toyota Fortuner and Honda CRV without license plates.

    They then got close to the victims’ vehicle and peppered it with bullets from M-16 Armalite rifles, one from each vehicle.

    Ferry said investigation is still on-going even as the victims have mentioned a name of possible attacker.

    The victims were rushed to different hospitals in Cabanatuan City.
