ORANI, Bataan- Replacement of the “big bridge” in this town was delayed after the piles hit old hard lumber underground, forcing the contractor to ask for a re-design, the province’s first district engineer said over the weekend.
District Engr. Wilfredo Mallari said the contractor has to temporarily stop until the the Department of Public Works and Highways Region 3 office in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga approves the new design and new piles are ordered.
“Dapat matatapos na kung pare-pareho ang gagamiting piles pero may tinamaan ngang kahoy kaya gumawa ng bagong design at nagkaroon ng delay,” the district engineer said. Reconstruction started late February and targeted to be finished after six months.
Mallari said appropriations for the construction of the bridge was P28 million. He said that the regional contractor is from Tarlac and an expert in bridge-building. Tricycle drivers complain of poor income because of the bridge construction.
“Walang kita dahil walang mapagkukunan ng pasada. Malayo ang iniikutan kaya makunsumo sa gasolina,” Aniceto Sulangi said. Tricycle driver said they charge the same fare of P10 per passenger despite their route becoming longer.
“Dapat tapusin na ng contractor, malaking perhuwisyo ang nangyari,” Sulangi said.
