ANGELES CITY – “Masayang-masaya kami pu at mekapagpayabut kayu pung saup kang mother mi. Dakal pung salamat at sana pu marakal kayu pa pung asaupan a memalen.”

A grateful Janet Muñoz told Pampanga 1st District Rep. Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. in appreciation for his visit to her elderly mother Candida.

“Pasalamat ke pung dakal anggang makananu mu agaganaka dala anggang makanyan no reng matua,” Jun Canlapan expressed the same gratitude to the congressman on behalf of his aunt Purita.

Individual expression of thanks uniformly welcomed Lazatin in all his visits since November last year to Feb. 5 to 173 elderlies in their homes in Barangays Agapito Del Rosario, Anunas, Claro M. Recto, Cuayan, Lourdes Sur, Lourdes Sur East, Margot, Mining, San Nicolas, Sta. Trinidad, Sto. Cristo, Sto. Rosario, Tabun, and Virgen Delos Remedios. The remaining 19 city barangays are set to be visited in the following days.

Lazatin personally delivers P2,000 financial assistance, Vitamin C supplements, five kilos of rice, and free medical check-ups, funded out of his own pocket in every visit.

In March and July last year, Lazatin also visited 372 bed-ridden elderly, aged 90 to 99 years old, in Mabalacat City and 258 in Magalang town.

During his term as Angeles City mayor, Lazatin has been known for his accessible, door-to-door delivery of public service, regularly visiting the barangays to personally deliver social services, including free inoculations and vitamins for children, and free medicines and social pension for senior citizens.

As congressman, Lazatin continues to champion the welfare of senior citizens.

On July 29, 2025, Lazatin filed House Bill 2422, which mandates the establishment of at least one ‘Bale Pusu’ home for the elderly in all cities and municipalities in the country, prioritizing elderly citizens who have been abandoned, left on the streets, or have no families or kin to take care of them.

The proposed elderly home is patterned after the Bale Pusu Home for Abandoned Female Elderly established in Barangay Sta. Teresita, Angeles City on Sept. 15, 2021, during Lazatin’s term as mayor.

On Oct. 2, 2025, Lazatin also filed HB 5068, which seeks to provide a universal social pension amounting to P2,000 per month – regardless of their income, civil status, health condition, or residency. Punto News Team/Team Lazatin Media
