CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — Elderly residents of Cabanatuan City, especially those who are abandoned or in need of care, will soon have access to a dedicated home for the aged with the completion of a new 321-square-meter facility by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Barangay Kalikid Sur.
The facility, built to provide a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable senior citizens, stands as a testament to the national government’s continuing commitment to social welfare and inclusive infrastructure.
“This senior care facility reflects the government’s commitment to improving the lives of elderly individuals, particularly those who are abandoned or in need of care,” DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Robert Jay Panaligan said.

He explained that the structure consists of two components. The left wing, completed at a cost of P9.59 million, includes two comfort rooms, a clinic, two isolation rooms, two offices, and a conference room with a pantry.
The right wing, built for P4.92 million, houses a general room designed to accommodate eight to 16 bed spaces, along with two additional comfort rooms.
“We recognize the importance of providing a safe and caring environment for the elderly, and this project addresses the needs of vulnerable elderly residents in the city,” Panaligan added.
Scheduled to open in July, the home for the aged is expected to enhance the quality of life for its residents by offering a secure, comfortable space tailored to their needs.
OIC-Assistant District Engineer Leonora Cruz emphasized the facility’s focus on comfort and safety. “It is designed to provide comfort and security to its future residents,” she said, noting her anticipation for future community-centered projects.
Cruz also highlighted the broader impact of such initiatives. “This project reflects DPWH’s commitment to social responsibility through infrastructure. It is fulfilling to see our technical capabilities improve the quality of life for some of society’s most at-risk members,” she said.
With the completion of this facility, the government aims to uphold the dignity of senior citizens and ensure they receive the care and compassion they deserve. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija)
