ABUCAY, Bataan: The Philippine Coast Guard Bataan Station on Friday announced that it is in the process of investigation on the alleged fake recruitment for members of the PCG Auxiliary (PCGA) or the civilian volunteer arm of the agency.
Commander Jonathan Serote of Coast Guard- Bataan station in Limay town said that recruiters who identified themselves as members of the PCGA have so far victimized 480 persons in Bataan starting November last year.
He said that they discovered the illegal recruitment through social media where photos of the “recruits” were identified as members of the PCGA. “Sinasabi na auxiliary daw ang mga ito ngunit sa pagcheck namin ng mga post ay medyo alanganin ang pagsuot ng uniporme, mali-mali ang saludo at mga protocols na ginagawa sa kanilang mga activities.”
Serote said that as of now, there is an ongoing investigation. “Tinitignan namin ang anggulo ng pagbibigay ng pera pero sa ngayon pa lang ay nakikita na namin na dahil sa panloloko ay nakagastos na ang mga mamamayan ng Bataan ng humigit kumulang na P25,000 per head sa kanilang application.”
“Walang dinedeclare na bayad sa kanilang recruitment pero dahil maraming requirements such as kailangan nila magbayad ng certificate, uniporme at mga patches, dito gumastos ang mga nabiktima,” the CG official said.
“Ang nakakalungkot ay karamihan sa mga narecruit ay indigent at ilan sa kanila ay nagbenta ng ari-arian, alagang hayop gaya ng baboy, ng bangka at karamihan ay umalis sa kanilang mga disenteng trabaho dahil sa attractive na invitation ng kunwaring Philippine Coast Guard na ito,” Serote furthered.
He said that as of now, they still cannot identify who the leaders of the alleged fake recruitment are so as not to preempt the investigation but that the PCG will make sure that those guilty will be punished.
Their lawyers, Serote said, are considering filing cases for syndicated estafa and perjury against the suspects.
“Nananawagan kami sa mga kababayan dito sa Bataan na maging mapanuri at inaabisuhan na din namin ang mga tao tungkol sa illegal na recruitment ng mga nagpapakilalang Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary sa mga mamayan ng Bataan,” Serote added.
The PCG official conferred with Mayor Robin Tagle of Abucay, one of the towns in Bataan where the “recruits” came from.
The mayor said the Bataan League of Municipalities composed of 11 town mayors and a city mayor in a meeting with Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia III Thursday have discussed the alleged illegal recruitment.
“Pinag-usapan namin kung ano ang mga dapat na gawin dahil marami tayong mga kababayan na gustong makatulong din sa bayan. Ngayon ay itatama na lang natin sa mga gustong magvolunteer at makatulong dito sa probinsya at bayan ng Abucay at sa ibang bayan ay itutuwid na lang namin. Kinausap na namin ang PCG para hindi naman masayang ang pinaghirapan ng mga tao,” Tagle said.
“Pagdating sa kasuhan ay hindi ko masasagot dahil ang mga miyembro dito na pumasok at namuno ay biktima lang din. Depende na lang sa PCG ang pwede nilang kasuhan dito,” the mayor added.
