ANGELES CITY – President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered government agencies to aggressively push her program to protect the people from the threats of the global economic crisis.

Disclosing this to Punto yesterday, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Regional Director Bles Lantayona said they had launched the Comprehensive Livelihood Emergency and Employment Programs (CLEEP) in at least two Central Luzon provinces – Bataan and Zambales.

She was interviewed when she reported the progress of CLEEP in the region to Subic Clark Alliance for Development Council (SCADC) Chairman Edgardo Pamintuan.

Lantayona disclosed that the next  CLEEP project will be staged in Pampanga.

“Our part in the DTI is to hold seminars on how to start a business. We will also teach them to make their businesses more progressive,” said Lantayona who spoke with Pamintuan at his office in Clark Freeport.

Lantayona said their targets are displaced overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). She added that they also want to provide a new source of income for displaced workers, especially in ecozones and freeports in Region III.

“We are coordinating with private and government agencies if they want to stage our seminars like in Clark,” said Lantayona. She disclosed that Arroyo ordered all cabinet members to launch CLEEP through a letter dated January 6.
