TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija — Several local government units in Nueva Ecija have declared the suspension of classes for Thursday, May 23, in the light of a massive brownout owing to scheduled maintenance activity of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.

“In anticipation of any development that may arise due to the said interruption (of power supply) and to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the students amid the El Nino phenomenon, there is a need to implement the suspension of classes at all levels in the City of Cabanatuan,” reads Executive Order 018 s. 2024 issued by Mayor Myca Elizabeth Vergara.

Suspended in Vergara’s order were classes in all levels both private and public.

Aside from classes, Mayor Nerito Santos, Jr. of this municipality, also declared the suspension of works at the LGU.

Offices that deal with health services and disaster response may keep skeletal forces, Santos ordered.

Classes were also suspended in the cities of San Jose and Munoz.

The NGCP announced that power supply will be temporarily cut from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. in arras covered by Nueva Ecija Electric Cooperative II – Area 1 comprising Talavera, Aliaga, Quezon, Guimba, Munoz, and Lupao substations; NEECO II Area 2 (Natividad, Bongabon and Gabaldon substations), San Jose City Electric Cooperative (San Jose and Sto. Tomas substations), LGU Pantabangan Electric System and Aurora Electric Cooperative (San Luis and Maria Aurora substations)

This is to give way for the maintenance and technical activities along Cabanatuan-Fatima and Cabanatuan-San Luis 69kV Lines, according to NGCP.
