CLARK FREEPORT – The Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and Little League Philippines (LLP) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the staging of the “2012 Little League Philippines Series” here from April 8 to 16.
CDC President Felipe Antonio Remollo and LLP District Administrator Jose Luis R. Gomez signed the agreement on Tuesday during the regular forum spearheaded by the Philippine Sports Writers Association (PSA).
Little League Baseball Philippines (LLBP) Administrator Chito Gonzales said at least 90 teams from all over the country will participate in the sporting event, which will be held at the 20-hectare CDC parade grounds here.
Gonzales thanked the CDC for hosting the event. He noted that 10 diamond fields will be created for the national sports competition.
For his part, Remollo noted the accessibility of the Clark by land via the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) or the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx), as he also pointed to the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) which now hosts regular domestic and international flights.
He also noted the “viability of Clark as the country’s future sports capital”, adding that Clark has already become a favorite venue for various sports like frisbee, paintball and airsoft games, soccer, cricket, marathons, duathlons, and other outdoor endurance races.
Remollo said that Clark as venue of the Little League Philippines Series, “will be transformed into melting pot of various tourism-related activities.”
He also bared that the CDC has allotted P30 million for various refurbishment of Freeport areas such as the parade grounds, including the lighting of its 2.3-kilometer pathway as well as the construction of a bikeway.
“We are also planning to convert the residential area along the stretch of the Parade Grounds opposite the historic barn houses into quaint restaurants like American-style diners and alfresco cafes,” he added.
