CLARK FREEPORT – Amid the suspense over the possibility that top government corporate executives here would be replaced by Pres. Aquino, employees of the Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) have united to issue an appeal for the retention of CIAC president and chief executive officer Victor Jose Luciano.

A manifesto of support signed by the managers, assistant managers, rank and file and even non-organic employees of CIAC said “Luciano is still needed to continue the progress in the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA).”

Almost all of CIAC’s 382 employees signed the manifesto amid the allegations of two CIAC board members and a Pampanga town mayor that Luciano had lost the support of the employees.  The signatories included eight out of the nine CIAC managers.

“Under Luciano’s leadership the salaries had been improved to competitive levels while CIAC itself had adopted a strong corporate citizenship,” the resolution said.

It also noted that “Luciano had been a pioneer who was instrumental to the start of international commercial passenger flights at the DMIA with the entry of South Korea’s Asiana Airlines in 2004.”

The statement also lamented the “black propaganda being waged against him by some politicians in Pampanga province.” It was apparently referring to Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo who recently criticized Luciano who had allowed the demolition of unused buildings within the civil aviation complex for donation to Aeta tribal folk.

The statement said that the move to improve the airport “is not an easy walk in the park” and that Luciano had “pioneered and piloted” the DMIA to its present status as an international airport.”  It noted that Luciano’s accomplishments at the CIAC were recognized last year by the Pampanga provincial government which named him Outstanding Kapampangan.

“Luciano is also recipient of the Asian Institute of Management’s Triple A Award for his contribution to the airport industry that generatedpositive developments not only in the Clark Freeport Zone but in the entire country, “ the statement further said.

The Clark airport now plays host to other airlines such as Malaysia’s Air Asia, Singapore’s Tiger Airways, Cebu Pacific, Seair and Pacific Flier. More airlines such as Jin Air and Air Busan are seriously considering to also locate here.
