CL dengue cases peak 131%

    CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Department of Health (DOH) has reported a 131 percent increase in the number of dengue cases in Central Luzon so far this year, with majority of the victims aged from 11 to 20.

    Fourteen dengue-related deaths have been reported in the region since January, from only two deaths last year.

    In its latest report, the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) of the DOH here noted a total of 12,490 dengue cases in the region, as compared to only 5,396 cases over the same period last year.

    The report said Bulacan had the most number of cases with 3,571, followed by Tarlac with 3,174, Pampanga with 2,520, Nueva Ecija with 1,452, Zambales with 733, Bataan with 681, and Aurora with 359.

    The report also noted that while Aurora had the least number of dengue cases, it topped the rest of Central Luzon in terms of percentage of increase of victims. The province had only 83 cases over the same period last year, jumping to 359 cases so far this year, or a 332 percent increase.

    “Most, or 93 percent were admitted (to hospitals),” said the report furnished to Punto by RESU nurse Maricel Mendoza.

    The report noted that “ages of cases ranged from less than one year to 95 years old. Majority or 54 percent were males, while 6 percent were aged from one to 20.”
