CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – The crime rate in Central Luzon has plunged by 17.46, statistics from the regional police based in Camp Olivas indicated.
The figures obtained from Central Luzon’s six provinces indicated that the Total Crime Volume (TCV) recorded in the region in 2011 was 34,002, much lower than the 50,421 cases in the previous year.
In 2010, the average monthly crime rate (AMCR) was 44.87 percent, and this went down to 27.41 percent in 2011, or a significant decrease of 17.46 percent, noted regional police director Chief Supt. Edgardo Ladao.
Ladao attributed fewer crimes to the strict implementation of both the Police Integrated Patrol System and regional police’s program called “Campaign against Motorcycle Riding Suspects Strategy.”
“Because of these, street crimes have been reduced and lawless elements particularly motorcycle riding criminals and organized criminal groups or gangs suffered setbacks,” he said.
Ladao also noted “the neutralization of 10 criminal gangs including the notorious Dominguez carnapping group with nine persons arrested and the seizure of 20 assorted firearms from them.
He also noted that 24 motorcycle riding suspects were “neutralized” with 21 of them being charged in court. A total of 29 assorted firearms were recovered from them.
Ladao also cited the project “Wanted ka! Huli Ka!” as being helpful in the police’s campaign against criminality as this “contributed to the increase in the serving of warrants of arrest.”
The project provides online database on most wanted and arrested persons in Central Luzon.
He noted that out 6,432 pending arrest warrants last year, 4,422 were served region-wide, which translates to 69.75 percent service efficiency.
“The regional police will continue to beef up its anti-crime efforts in the region and continue to strive in the reduction of crimes even further,” he said.
