BALANGA CITY – City Assessor Marilyn Alonzo on Tuesday took pride in announcing that her office will work harder to help Balanga continuously stay in the top in Real Property Tax (RPT) collection in Central Luzon.
Alonzo, an engineer, said the assessor’s office has been contributing its share in realizing the city government’s target of collecting P48 million, including tax delinquents, in RPT this year. She said, hopefully, this will place Balanga again as No. 1 in Region 3 in RPT revenue.
Asked what contributed to this consistent good record of the city government, she attributed the feat to the harmonious relations of agencies, holding of Barangay Week and continuous serving of notices to real property owners.
She added that it should not be forgotten to give credit to the cooperation extended by the paying public.
Alonzo said that Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia III see to it that all agencies concerned are doing to the utmost their full share to attain the target. The Barangay Week rotated year round to all the 25 barangays in the city. It serves as information post on the tax campaign aside from bringing the city hall services closer to the people.
Garcia, popularly called as Mayor Joet, has implemented the Barangay Week program for some years and promised to go on after receiving good feedbacks. The mayor has the full support of the Sangguniang Panlungsod chaired by Vice Mayor Noel Valdecanas.
The assessor said that the good relationship between the Treasurer’s office under Lito Evangelista and her office has also significantly contributed to the good RPT collection efficiency of the city government.
She said that they see to it that notices on payments of RPT and tax delinquency are properly served to those concerned.
Alonzo revealed that she is also in close coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources provincial office in the inventory of public lands for possible taxation. She said that Balanga has a land area of 11,163 hectares but not all are registered and titled.
She said that registered owners of only about 30 percent of the total area pay taxes. She added that not all the area can be titled since a big portion are forest lands.
Alonzo also said that of the total land area, only about 7,000 hectares are declared.
She added that Mayor Garcia has asked them to also work in the inventory of vacant lots in the city to generate possible additional taxes.
