CABANATUANCITY– The sangguniang panlungsod has granted amnesty in the payment of all unpaid real property taxes a, city councilor disclosed Thursday.
The amnesty tax privilege may be availed of from November 15, 2009 to February 15, 2010.
According to City Councilor Ariel G. Severino, the grant of tax amnesty “shall only apply in the payment of interest or penalty on all unpaid real property taxes covering the period from January 1, 2006 to the present.”
According to the measure’s explanatory note, the devastation caused by massive floodings in the wake of super typhoons “Ondoy” and “Pepeng” necessitated the issuance of such amnesty upon property owners.
It said the livelihood of the people had been severely affected by reason of the said typhoons which also resulted in the failed crops harvest which had thus lessened the capability of the residents to meet their tax obligations.
Thus, in response to the clamor of property tax owners and the farming community as well as the business sectors which had experienced an economic slow-down, the council resorted to the grant of a tax amnesty. Aside from Severino, the other signatories to the ordinance Vice-Mayor Marius A. Garcia, and Councilors Froilan Valino, Joselito Roque, Rosendo del Rosario, Johnero Mercado, Cristina W. Paulino, Angelito Saclolo Jr., and Francisco C. Tolentino.
