GAPAN CITY – Three persons, including a city councilor and his wife, were wounded when four unidentified men fired at them in Barangay Malimba here Saturday morning, the third in a string of violence that occur weekly.
Investigation showed that the suspects, armed by “long and short firearms” barged into the premises of the home of Councilor Danilo de Guzman, 57 and his wife, Julieta, 55, who were then with Rizalino Perez,47.
The victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies, police said.
PO3 Edmer Portillo, investigator, said that the trio were brought to the Good Samaritan Hospital here but Julieta de Guzman and Perez had to be brought to a Metro Manila hospital for further treatment while the official was already released from hospital.
Portillo said follow-up investigations are being conducted to ascertain the perpetrators as well as the motive behind the attack.
Last week, city election officer Arsenio Reyes, Jr. was ambushed by motorcycle-riding men while on his way to Cabanatuan City for the printing of election materials at the Commission on Election provincial office. Reyes survived a gunshot wound on his body.
On Aug. 12, four people, including an 86-year-old woman and two students, were killed when heavily armed men attacked the group of businessman Emerson Pascual. A policemen who secured Pascual also succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in the incident.
Reyes said from his temporary safe house that the forthcoming barangay and sangguniang kabataan elections here will be bloody unless something is done.
