In the regular session on Monday, the council approved Ordinance 249, otherwise known as “Ordinance renaming Bern St. in Don Pepe Subd., to R.V. Ponce Sr. for his significant contribution to the street and barangay.”
Sponsored by Councilors Ric Zalamea and Agapito Del Rosario, the ordinance recognized the contribution of Ponce to the welfare of his neighbors. He was the owner of the PG Pawnshops outlets in Balibago and nearby villages and towns.
Joseph Ponce, son of the elder Ponce who now handles the PG Pawnshop in Balibago, expressed gratitude to the councilors for recognizing the contributions of his father to the village.
Earlier, Balibago Barangay Captain Tony Mamac set an inauguration on January 10 for the renaming of the street near the new Balibago Barangay Hall. But it was postponed after the council failed to pass the ordinance in time for the occasion.
