BAGUIO CITY – “This airport is yours.”

Thus stressed Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) President and CEO Victor Jose Luciano in his speech on Tuesday at the 8th leg of the North and Central Luzon Road Show here to promote domestic and international flights at the Clark Freeport.

Luciano expressed delight when the road show at the CAP-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center was mobbed by journalists, local businessmen, officials and representatives of major travel agencies at the summer capital of the Philippines.

“We are here because we want to bring the airport closer to the mountain, this beautiful mountain of Baguio,” said Luciano, whose office handles the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) described as the future premier gateway in the country.

He announced that he had asked Sea Air and other airlines to consider having regular Baguio-Clark flights.

“Baguio has a huge economic value and we want it to be a part of the airport’s thrust in promoting international and domestic flights at DMIA,” said Luciano.

But local traders had expressed dismay over the Loakan Airport here, saying “it’s not fit to be used by airlines.” They added that animals and even vehicles cross the runway of the airport in Baguio posing danger to airplanes.

They asked Luciano to convince the national government to improve the city’s airport.

Eric Gomez, chairman of the Clark Freeport Tourism Association (CFTA), said they had supported CIAC’s road show because “Clark has vast potential to be the prime tourist destination in the country.” He added that “an airport teeming with activities would mean good business and economy at Clark.”

Gomez, general manager of Paradise Ranch at Clark, joined Luciano at the road show here “to help promote the freeport.”

Gomez said there are at least 2,000 hotel rooms at Clark, including cottages and rooms available at Paradise Ranch.

CIAC launched its first-ever road show at Hotel Vida at Clark last March 20. The road show had already visited the provinces of Zambales, Olongapo City, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Ilocos Norte, Bataan and Bulacan.
