MABALACAT CITY — Commission on Higher Education (CHED) conferred the Gawad Parangal Edukalidad Parangal sa Kahusayan Award to Mabalacat City College (MCC).

CHED Chairperson J. Prospero De Vera said the awardees are the best of the best in Philippine higher education; citing that MCC is one of the nine Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) in the country with more than 75 percent of its program offerings granted Certificate of Compliance.

MCC President Michelle Aguilar-Ong, who received the award, thanked CHED, citing that the current leadership of the commission is the most LUC friendly.

“For the first time in the history of LUCs, we are given scholarships, we are also receiving grants, and first time to be part of the Philippine delegation in international exploratory,” Ong said.

For his part, Mayor Crisostomo Garbo said the award is a true testament to his administration’s commitment to quality and excellence in higher education.

“There are more than 120 LUCs in the country, and the fact that MCC is one of the few awardees to receive this prestigious award just proves how serious we are in striving to be the best in providing proper training to our students in preparing them on their next chapter in their future careers,” he added.

The award is given to LUCs which are compliant both with the requirement of institutional recognition by virtue of commission en banc Resolution No. 623-2017 and certificate of program compliance for all program offerings as certified by CHED Regional Office III.

As a recipient of the Gawad Parangal, a LUC will receive a trophy and a Certificate of Eligibility which qualifies the educational institution to avail of the benefits stipulated under the provision of Republic Act 10931 otherwise known as Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.
