CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Commission on Filipino Overseas (CFO) held a community education program in Pampanga to strengthen its advocacy on migration and trafficking.
This activity seeks to assist prospective migrants in making informed decisions regarding settlement abroad, as well as to generate community involvement in migration concerns.
“We aim to raise public awareness on various issues concerning migration, intermarriage and existing government policies and programs directed against illegal recruitment, documentation fraud, and human trafficking, among others,” CFO Supervising Emigrant Services Officer Janet Ramos said.
During the briefing with the media, CFO Emigrant Services Officer II Princess Mayumi Kaye Peralta introduced the different programs of the commission for potential migrants including Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar, Guidance and Counseling Program, J1 Visa-Exchange Visitor Program and Country Familiarization Program for Au Pairs.
For her part, Ramos discussed about the different forms and dimensions of human trafficking and how it differs from illegal recruitment. She also presented the hotlines against human trafficking.
In addition, Claire Ruzzel Esturas, Gender and Development Specialist from Philippine Commission on Women, also talked during the briefing to ensure that CFO considers the differentiated needs and ensure that the programs they provide are gender-responsive.
Aside from the briefing, the team also conducted radio interview and campus forums in the province as part of their education program. – PIA 3
