Centenarian school, church hold medical missions

    ORANI, Bataan- A public elementary school celebrating its 100th year of founding and a church, both in this town, on Saturday conducted separate medical and dental missions that benefi tted more than 550 indigents.

    Hermi Duran, president of the Orani North Elementary School centennial celebration committee, said their medical- dental mission attended to 150 medical and 100 dental patients who were also given free medicines like multi-vitamins, anti-biotics and medications for coughs and blood pressure, among others.

    Volunteer doctors, nurses, dentists, midwives attended to the patients at the classrooms of the oldest public school in the town.

    “This is one of the activities of the 100th founding year of the school. We are inviting all alumni to come and enjoy their homecoming,” Duran said.

    She said that various activities will be held on April 30, 2016. “We will give plaques of recognition to outstanding alumni and to the teachers who are helping the school,” she said.

    Sherene Mapit, 1991 graduate, like all other volunteers proudly wore a T-shirt marked 100 years.

    Rev. Fr. Santos Detablan, parish priest of the Diocesan Shrine & Parish of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, said more than 300 indigents were benefi tted by their medical mission held at the buildings of the church-operated school.

    Medical services off ered were bone screening, ECG, blood typing, among some others. Free reading glasses were also given.

    The priest said 24 doctors and more than 80 volunteer nurses, midwives, medical technologists from the Sambayanan ng Diyos who are serving the church attended to the patients.

    “This is one way of celebrating the extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy by serving the poor patients,” Detablan said.

    The 49-member Drug Store Association of the Philippines (Bataan chapter) gave free multi-vitamins, anti-biotics, paracetamol and other drugs.
