ANGELES CITY- Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan led the formal opening of classes and the welcoming of new students at the City College of Angeles (CCA) on Monday, here.

Members of the school administration warmly welcomed the mayor despite the continuous rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon.

During Monday’s flag raising rites at the college campus, CCA President Dr. Richard Daenos said that the college is now offering four (4) additional courses this new academic year, which include, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, Psychology, Performing Arts, and English Language Studies.

“We redound to our commitment of providing the best learning opportunity for every Angeleños through the offering of various programs that are market-driven and are beneficial to the community,” the college president said.

According to the data released by the college registrar’s office, there are a total of 2,129 students admitted for the first semester of academic year 2018-2019. All students are enjoying free tuition fees granted under Republic Act 10931 otherwise known as the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education.

Moreover, Daenos said “there is more to come for CCA” as it inks academic partnerships with various government and non-government agencies to develop its quality of instruction and teaching mechanisms.

Just recently, the college signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with organizations such as the Department of Asian American Studies in the University of California (UC) Davis, Sinukwan Kapampangan Center for the Arts, Angeles City Tourism Office, Public Employment Service Office, and Angeles City Youth Development Office, among others.

This is to foster collaboration, to provide opportunities for development, and to facilitate advancement of knowledge in various areas of cooperation, mutual interests such as culture and the arts, research, employment assistance, exchange of information on technical expertise through joint organization of seminars, conferences, workshops and short-term continuing professional development (CPD) programs.

For his part, Mayor Pamintuan reiterated what he delivered during his final State of the City Address (SOCA) about the importance of education thus the essence of building the city’s first community college.

“We spent 320 million in the establishment of the CCA, but its value remains immeasurable. I leave this as my legacy to the youth of Angeles City. Trust that I will brag about the CCA for as long as I live,” said the Mayor.

Since the college’s conception during Pamintuan’s first term in the call to “provide quality education to Angelenos, especially those coming from indigent backgrounds,” the CCA has produced 1,128 graduates from 2016 to present.

“But we must look beyond the number of graduates we have produced—we put forth the quality of education and the performance of the students of CCA. In a short span of time, we have managed to be at par, and even contend with top colleges and universities in the country,” said the mayor as he attributes the accolades gained by CCA to its administration and teaching force.
