SCIENCE CITY OF MUÑOZ, Nueva Ecija – Former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano vowed to oppose any move to amend the Constitution saying nothing can be more important these days than in rolling out the coronavirus vaccine.
The now-plain Taguig-Pateros representative, along with his wife and fellow representative Lani, was welcomed here by Nueva Ecija 2nd District Rep. Micaela Violago ang Mayor Ernesto Alvarez, for the distribution of 50 mountain bicycles and 108 food packs for barangay health workers on Saturday.
“Ano ba ang importante sa atin? Kasi kung ganyan ang gagawin sa Cha–Cha, kahit sino’ng kausap mo business leaders, civic leaders, political leaders, religious leaders, magdedebate kayo sa probisyon ng Konstitusyon? Dedebate kayo sa kung kailangan ng partylist o hindi? O yung sa kaliwa o sa kanan? Magdedebate kayo tungkol sa death penalty? Dapat tinututukan na natin ngayon anong klaseng vaccine. Paano mapaparating? Paano idi-distribute?,” Cayetano asked.
He urged all sectors to focus only on vaccination.
“Kung lahat ng ibang bansa ay nagro-roll-out na ng vaccination program, at magbubukas na yung ekonomiya at tayo, hindi pa, aanhin mo ang benepisyo ng economic reforms sa Cha–Cha, yung death penalty, yung sinasabi na may babaguhin sa Constitution para sa partylist. Lahat po yun ay may merit pero yung timing po mali. We cannot afford na magkaroon ng division kailangan po lahat ng religious leaders, kailangan lahat ng political leaders, lahat ng civic and business leaders, magkaisa tayo ngayon at tutukan natin yung vaccination,” he added.
On the other hand, he promised support to providing funds for the anti-Covid vaccination program.
“Of course, I mean any reform now that will not take away our focus on Covid-19 and vaccination, kaya ngayung corruption, hindi natin puwedeng bitawan kasi pag kinorap yung pang–vaccination, kinorap yung pang–health, kinorap yung pang–ayuda, tinitira pa natin. I’m not saying forget everything, ang sinasabi ko, kung hindi ito kaugnay ng paglaban natin sa Covidat saka vaccine, isantabi muna natin,” he stressed.
“Kung before New Year and Christmas ang pinag-uusapan ay did someone drop the ball, hindi na ako nakihalo doon para walang finger–pointing pero very, very strongly, ang grupo po namin sa Congress ang nagsasabing eyes on the ball. At ano ba yung ball? Vaccination program,” Cayetano said.
