CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Gov. Lilia “Baby” Pineda has asked the help of Pampanga Truckers Association (PTA) to report and arrest erring truck drivers that violate environment and traffic rules.
In a meeting with the PTA here, Pineda urged the truckers’ group to report and apprehend vehicles suspected of carrying garbage from Metro Manila especially those that carry hospital waste.
“Once we caught them, we would give them the maximum penalty. I urge the PTA to help me monitor these erring truckers,” said Pineda in the dialect.
She also asked the PTA to apply the “corresponding sanctions against truckers who violate laws.”
PTA Vice President Ferdie Beltran, for his part, said his group would support the plan of Pineda to step up the campaign against truck drivers and quarry operators violating environment laws.
He added that “once quick solution is to ask truckers from other areas to join the PTA and carry on their trucks the zeal or code representing their group.”
“If a truck is about to enter Pampanga and it has no PTA zeal, the provincial quarry checkers should double check it,” Beltran said.
Pineda asked the PTA’s assistance due to reports that trucks coming from the National Capital Region (NCR) continue throwing garbage in the province, notably in open areas and quarry sites.
Pineda said the provincial government is set to use a state-of-the-art CCTV camera that would monitor the quarry operations in the province.
She added that it will not just guard suspected cheating on quarry collections but also monitor trucks throwing waste.
Pineda issued the warning after being shown of photos of garbage piled up in open and quarry areas in Porac, Floridablanca Mabalacat and other towns.
The first-term governor also urged the police and other government agencies to stop and apprehend speeding trucks passing along roads in the province.
