CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – In a bid to help Kapampangan rice farmers, the Pampanga provincial government will be providing two warehouses to the National Food Authority (NFA).
The warehouses are set to be installed grain dryers, pledged by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region III.
This was bared during the meeting of Gov. Dennis ‘Delta’ Pineda, Vice Gov. Lilia ‘Nanay’ Pineda, Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, Provincial Administrator Atty. Charlie Chua, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Angelina ‘Angie’ Blanco, Provincial Agriculturist Edilberto Salenga, DA Regional Director Cris Bautista and NFA Provincial Manager Julieta Aurora Orias.
They discussed programs that would benefit the farmers in Pampanga, since the NFA has so far bought only 2% of palay in the province.
“Mag-isip tayo paano mabibili ang palay ng farmers dito sa Pampanga,” the Gov. urged.
According to Gov. Pineda, this is also to assist the farmers with the implementation of Rice Tarrification Law.
“Importante ang mga magsasaka. Kung wala sila, magugutom tayo,” Vice Gov. Lilia ‘Nanay’ Pineda added.
The vice governor also mentioned that there are existing warehouses in Porac, Floridablanca and San Simon towns.
Moreover, NFA Provincial Manager Orias, said that the agency would buy palays of farmers for P20.00, with 14% moisture content.
