TARLAC CITY — Capas National High School (CNHS) emerged as Champion in the inaugural virtual Regional Sports Skills Demonstration Contest (SSDC) of Department of Education (DepEd).

It aims to provide public school student-athletes an opportunity and alternative venue to showcase their talents in the absence of an organized school-based sports tournament due to COVID-19 pandemic.

CNHS Principal Yolanda Gonzales shared the reason behind their school’s achievement.

“Our success is always attributed to the teamwork between the learners and the collaborative school community,” Gonzales said.

Bonifacio V. Romero High School from Angeles City landed 1st runner up while Tarlac National High School-Main was named 2nd runner up. Muñoz National High School – Annex from Science City of Muñoz ended 3rdrunner up.

DepEd Tarlac Province School Governance and Operations Division Chief Education Supervisor and concurrent Division Sports Coordinator Noel Linsao acknowledged the parents’ role in this milestone.

“We would like to thank the parents of our learners who have been very supportive all throughout the process,” he said.

The activity also seeks to provide financial assistance to public schools, particularly for their sports program, through monetary prizes given to the winners.

For his part, DepEd Tarlac Province Schools Division Superintendent Ronaldo Pozon congratulated both schools for their win.

“We are very proud of the achievements of our two schools in the Division. Capas National High School and Tarlac National High School – Main truly exemplify the best of sports in the province, and now in the region,” Pozon expressed.

In her message, DepEd Regional May Eclar thanked and lauded all participating individuals in the first-ever virtual Regional SSDC.

“We are certain that sports activities, whether done in the traditional way or in virtual modality, will help our learners develop their physical skills, competitiveness, sportsmanship, and camaraderie,” Eclar emphasized.

CNHS will represent Central Luzon in the National Sports Skills Demonstration Contest this November.  (CLJD/GLSB-PIA 3)
