Camayan divers hold successful ‘Scubasurero’

    MORONG, BATAAN – Subic Bay Marine Exploratorium, Inc. (SBMEI) celebrated its 3rd anniversary of Camayan Divers PADI 5-STAR Dive Resort with their signature event, “Dive Heroes Festival-Scubasurero” last December 2, 2017 at Camayan Beach Resort.

    This clean-up event, dubbed as “Dive Heroes Festival-Scubasurero”, was spearheaded by the Camayan Divers in cooperation with Project AWARE and PNP-SAF, which aims to enlist certified scuba divers and volunteers to rid Subic Bay of trash, whether it is found underwater and/or on shore.

    Juanito “Yuan” Soriano, Camayan Divers OIC, said”- Together, there’s a lot we can accomplish. We are giving divers a chance to extend their passion for the care of the environment.”

    Soriano added that Scubasurero was “dedicated to Project AWARE. We are donating P10,000 in gratitude to them for their support to Camayan divers.”

    The Subic Bay Dive Association, along with diving establishments in the area, including Arizona, Boardwalk Dive Center, Johann’s, Deep Blue Scuba and Wow Shark contributed valuable time and resources for the event.

    Chairperson and administrator of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Wilma T. Eisma said: “We only have one home and this is our home. What you are trying to do here is a testament to what I am trying to say. I hope you’ll continue to do it.”

    Eisma expressed hope to participate in the Scubasurero: “Hopefully, next time I’ll join you, I’ll go back to diving again.”

    The onshore activity of the clean-up drive collection consisted of 7 kls nets, 9 kls ropes, 10 kls plastic, 3 kls styro, 1 1/2 kls plastic bottle, 5 kls plastic, while the underwater clean-up done by the divers took in 6 kls rubber slippers, 5 kls plastic, and 11 kls bottle.

    The dive took 40 minutes within 14-meter depth (45.9 ft) at Camayan Reef Area, Barges near Grande Island.

    There were more than 200 participants, while there were more than 50 certified divers who participated in the underwater clean-up.

    The divers were accompanied by safety divers throughout their dive.
