OLONGAPO CITY – Two construction workers were buried by mud, while one of their companions escaped from sure death, after heavy rains poured at the side of the mountain where they were conducting digging operations in Barangay Kalaklan in this city, Monday afternoon.
Report reaching the office of Angelito Layug, chief of the Disaster Management Office (DMO), identified the fatalities as Gilbert Dalisay, 38, resident of No. 65 Lower Kalaklan and Ronnie Lastimada, 22, resident of No. 2040 Barangay Old Cabalan.
The survivor was identified as Edmar Vijiga, 19, resident of No. 65 Lower Kalaklan, this city and was rushed to James Gordon Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.
Dalisay tried to rescue Lastimada who was seeking for help, but was hit by mud and stones coming from the top of the mountain.
Report said victims were buried from 10 to 12 feet mud killing them instantly.
