In a report, the Bulacan provincial health office (PHO) noted 1,365 dengue cases from January 1 to June 3, 2017 with six casualties in the province.
The Epidemiology Surveillance Unit of the PHO said most of the cases were noted in the 10 barangays where the clean-up drive is being done to remove breeding grounds of the mosquitoes that transmit dengue virus to humans.
The PHO identified the 10 barangays as Sta. Rita Bata, Pulong Bayabas, Biclat and Tigpalas in San Miguel; Pinagbakahan in Malolos City; Santa Barbara in Baliwag; Sta. Monica in Hagonoy; Kaypian in San Jose Del Monte City; and Buhol na Mangga and Bubulong Munti in San Ildefonso.
This, even as Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino Sy Alvarado issued an appeal to his constituents “to clean their houses as well as their environment to prevent dengue and other diseases arising from unclean surroundings.”
“Anyone can be a victim of dengue but this can be prevented through the so-called 4-S campaign, namely search and destroy of breeding sites, seek early consultation, self-protection measures, and saying NO to indiscriminate fogging,” Alvarado added.
