Bulacan State University marks 104th founding anniversary

    MALOLOS CITY—The Bulacan State University (BulSU) here, the largest university in Central Luzon, marked its 104th founding anniversary with a weeklong celebration starting Monday.

    Dr. Mariano De Jesus, BulSU president, described the celebration that started last Monday as “cool, spectacular and uplifting.”

    Classes were cancelled until Sunday to allow open participation of BulSU’s population of more than 21,000 enrolled students.

    He said that they prepared and carefully-planned the activities that promote meaningful festivity complete with cultural, academic, social and sporting events and competitions.

    “It’s a welcome respite from the academic routine as the University community celebrates the very existence of beloved institution that made a difference in the lives of countless youth in the province,” De Jesus said noting this year’s celebration revolves on the theme, “ Sharing a Commitment Towards a Common Vision”.

    Some of the prepared activities include exhibits on the university’s 104 history, fine arts and food exhibits, motor show, billiards and bowling tournaments, symphonic band concert, conferment of Doctor of Philosophy (honoris causa) on Honorable So Chi Ming Stephen, singing contests, quiz bees, skills olympics, dance troupe concert,  launching of campus TV programs, blessing of College of Nursing – College of Information and Communication Technology Building, Academic Forum , and general alumni homecoming for the College of Engineering.

    As an academic institution, BulSU was founded in 1904 as Bulacan High School.  It was later called as Bulacan College of Arts and Trades (BCAT) until its conversion into a state university in the early 90s.
