TARLAC CITY – Bulacan province was crowned over-all champion in the recently concluded Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA) 2024 meet held in the province of Tarlac from April 29 to May 3.
The Division of Bulacan, in both its elementary and secondary levels garnered the most number of gold at 102, silver at 65, and bronze medals at 73. Placing over-all second is the Division of Olongapo City with 52 gold, 48 silver and 50 bronze medals. The Division of Bataan placed third with 29 gold, 40 silver and 52 bronze.
Host Division of Tarlac garnered 24 gold, 29 silver and 32 bronze medals to place fourth over-all while the Division of Pampanga placed fifth with 23 gold, 29 silver and 26 bronze.
The elementary level of Bulacan has a total of 53 golds, 33 silvers and 30 bronzes while its secondary level totaled 49 golds, 32 silvers and 44 bronzes.
Tarlac Gov. Susan Yap, in her message during the simple awarding ceremony held at the Capitol Center on May 3, thanked all the participating divisions.
“Congratulations to the Division of Bulacan for being crowned champions in this year’s CLRAA meet. I would also like to thank the Division of Tarlac province and the provincial government of Tarlac for a successful staging of this annual sporting spectacle,” the governor said.
There were a total of 10,818 CLRAA delegates from elementary to junior and senior high school students from public and private schools competed in the different sports such as arnis, archery, athletics, badminton, billiards, boxing, basketball 5×5, basketball 3×3, chess, dancesport, football, futsal, gymnastics, paragames, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wrestling, and wushu.
The participants in the regional meet shall be elementary and secondary (both junior and senior high school learners) athletes from public and private schools who participated in the local meets (Cluster, District, and Division Meets).
The 5-day regional sports meet was played in 31 different venues spread across Tarlac province.
The regional athletic meet is in preparation for the Pre-National Qualifying Meet, an additional tier before the conduct of the Palarong Pambansa which will be held on July 29 to August in Marikina City. The Pre-National Qualifying Meet aims to lessen the number of delegations, shorten the duration of the event, and lower the expenses to be incurred—all without sacrificing the level of play.
Other divisions who participated are the Divisions of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan (22 gold, 20 silver, 17 bronze); Nueva Ecija (21 gold, 25 silver, 21 bronze); Aurora (18 gold, 26 silver, 27 bronze); Malolos City (16 gold, 12 silver, 18 bronze); Tarlac City (15 gold, 14 silver, 15 bronze); Zambales (14 gold, 21 silver, 36 bronze); Mabalacat City (9 gold, 5 silver, 14 bronze); Cabanatuan City (9 gold, 4 silver, 21 bronze); Angeles City (6 gold, 15 silver, 22 bronze); City of San Fernando (6 gold, 4 silver, 8 bronze); Balanga City (5 gold, 4 silver, 19 bronze); San Jose (4 gold, 9 silver, 8 bronze); Meycauayan City (3 gold, 5 silver, 6 bronze); Science City of Muñoz (1 gold, 3 silver, 7 bronze) and Gapan City (1 silver, 1 bronze).—Arvin F.
