TARLAC CITY (PIA) — Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) North Luzon Regional Office conducted a series of information caravan in the province of Tarlac.

Particularly, BSP visited Camiling, Moncada, Ramos, and Tarlac City.

BSP North Luzon Regional Office Bank Officer IV Rodora Teresa Openiano said the objective of the information caravan is not only to inform but also gather information concerning currencies.

“We are informing multi-sectoral participants through briefings and lectures on the familiarization of currencies, advisories on currencies, digital payments, and cyber hygiene in doing online transactions for the protection of the public,” Openiano said.

In Camiling, staff and officers of the local government unit participated while Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries, senior citizens, out-of-school youth, and womens’ organizations joined the lecture in Moncada and Ramos.

Moreover, Tarlac Police Provincial Office engaged in the seminar to cascade the information on differentiating authentic banknotes from fake ones.

“It is a common issue that whenever Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas releases a new design of currency, confusion arises. That’s why we are letting the public know the features of genuine currencies they need to look out for,” Openiano added.

She also clarified that folded banknotes, whether made of paper or polymer, are accepted in all establishments and maintain their value despite getting folded.

Likewise, BSP convened with Tarlac Federation of Rural Banks to gather feedback from the financial service providers community on their reception of currencies, issues regarding currencies, and other matters that would help the banks in furthering their mission.

Currently, BSP North Luzon Regional Office has reached 70 percent of the provinces in Regions 1, 2, 3, and Cordillera and targets to complete all provinces by December 2023. (CLJD/GLSB-PIA 3)
